Hey All-

I'll be starting med school in the fall, and I have always had an interest in spine surgery. I just had a few questions:

1) What (approximate) percentage of ortho residents that apply for spine spots actually match to them?

2) How does one go about making themselves competitive for a match in spine surgery?

Thanks in advance.

i read on i think the san francisco match site - which handles many fellowship matches that about 87% of us residents matched into ortho spine.

if you want it, you shouldn't have problem getting it because many residents don't want further training and just want to get out and make money. that said the best programs - like hss, hjd, hopkins, etc - will be difficult to get into.

i was also reading that there are 4 job vacancies for every single orthopod in the usa.

getting into ortho is much harder than getting into spine for fellowship.
