How tough is it to get into a PRS residency after your general surgery residency? is it as hard as getting into an integrated program? anyone have rough numbers of the percentage of general surg PGY4 or 5's who want to do PRS but don't match?

42% of applicants matched May 19th, 2006 for positions July 1, 2007

It's getting tougher - check out SFMatch.org for more details
Are you a resident yet?

Conventional wisdom had it that the Integrated Match was more difficult, but as PRS has been increasingly popular, the Independent Match has also become one of the most difficult fellowship matches (as shown by Jocomama's post above).

Your best bet is to apply to both PRS and Gen Surg (as a backup) - although some Gen Surg programs will frown upon being used as a back-up, so you have to convince them that you are truly interested in surgery as a whole.
