How conservative is EM?

Okay, trollerskates.... listen up.

"Memorandums" get sent to interested parties regarding information or an event.
I collect hockey "Memorabilia"; items which remind one of an event - generally not involving the deaths of individuals.
"Memorials" are items/gestures in remembrance of the departed.

... and we're the ones with language difficulties, right ?

Good luck with the vocabulary required in medicine.

Might want to look up some definitions. Calling me a troll but using fallacies to challenge me on vocab over the Internet. You're legit. 🙄

Might want to look up "fallacy".

Wait, I'll do it for you. From "Merriam-Webster Online"

1
a obsolete : guile, trickery
b : deceptive appearance : deception
2
a : a false or mistaken idea <popular fallacies>
b : erroneous character : erroneousness
3
: an often plausible argument using false or invalid inference

Hmm. Not even a👎 MS-1 yet, and you've already got this attitude ?

Like I said, good luck.

Back to your regularly scheduled trolling. I gotta nap before my nightshift. Get back to you soon, promise. 🙂

I meant definition of memorabilia - you used equivocation, it's a fallacy of taking a word with more than one meaning and fitting it to what you think it should mean at this particular time. Now you're resorting to ad hominem, which you seemlessly transitioned to you having better things to do. Might want to change your avi from a red fox to a red herring.

Relax.

NonTrad CA has successfully been added to your ignore list.

Sorry to block a fellow service member, but trolls are trolls. Best of luck in your career. Just try to remember what you posted in another thread about not having an internet persona. If you carry this attitude in non-internet life on rotations and interviews, I sincerely doubt we will ever have the opportunity to work together.

If you want to bend the idea of "memorabilia" around your neck ink, then fine. 99 out of 100 non ****-chucking apes will agree that "memorabilia" is an odd fit for the item in question, and "memorial" is the more widely-accepted word for what you're trying to convey.

Below is the google image search result for "memorabilia", to give you a better idea of what the rest of the universe primarily thinks of when you use the word. Go ahead and click, I'll wait.

Thanks for letting me take my nap. I'm going to get dressed for my night shift. Feel free to get back to me. I'll be here all night.

Well it's a memorandum for some fallen friends, but now that I look back it's something that could have been placed elsewhere. I knew when I got it that I would be judged based on it, I just figured that I could cover it up if I had to. I was in the military and got a lot of issues for it as well - but it really boiled down to whether I was on top of my game. If someone didn't like me, or if I wasn't doing my job it would've been a serious problem. I worked with patients but it was a different population, however some retired brass sometimes mentioned it but ultimately I was support staff in that capacity and not their physician. The Marines didn't care. So what I'll plan to do is cover it, and if it becomes a problem I will think about getting rid of it. I'm not so narcissistic that I only think about myself, so if its best for patients to not be bombarded with ink I'll change that.

A bunch of my fellow residents were tattooed, but they were all in places that didn't really show at work.

And of course the Doctor wears a bow tie. But he can. In fact, he could probably do the tattoo thing, but it'd be in Gallifreyan. Which would make for a pretty cool tattoo in any case.

I don't have any. I have a couple of extra holes in my ears, but nothing that pushes the envelope.

Got reminded of this thread. Some good luls in here. Oh the triggering. Loved the igs, post stalking from some of you.

Update:
Didn’t choose EM. I have ran into a lot of silent judging with my tattoo. I’m sure during residency interviews some people were taken aback. I matched high still, but couldn’t help but wonder.

I admit I came off a little arrogant and confrontational here, so I apologize for that. I certainly was being short sighted when I got the tattoo, and my judgment nowadays probably wouldn’t have me getting necked again.

That being said, no regrats.

This is ironic because when I think of a physician with tattoos the first guy I think of was my EM preceptor who had a full sleeve on each arm.

Intradermal ink doesn't sound like a good idea.

Posting for future posters with similar questions.

The part of the country you are in will likely affect this. I've seen plenty of residents with tattoos, gauges, atypical hairstyles, and piercings. The ones at my program never seemed to be perceived in a negative light. Some patients may be bothered, but some patients will be bothered if you're dark skinned, a woman, or an atypical sexuality. EM is probably one of the most tolerant specialties in regards to deviating from typical "professional" appearances. Face, hand, and neck tattoos are still socially in the somewhat facetious "will never hold a job that pays taxes" category and should be avoided. Outside of that, if it's important to you and part of who you see yourself as, the professional risks are manageable and generally involve avoiding people and work places you wouldn't want to be involved with anyway.

Am I the only idiot that thought this person had a tattoo of the fruit on their neck, not like an actual date as in the day of the year?
