I am curious as to how much our optomcas and interview affect our chances of getting in. I have a 3.8 and 340 OAT. If I have an average personal statement and average interview do I have a decent chance of being accepted? Thanks!

I would say OptomCas is 100% important considering if you don't submit it schools will have no idea that you want to attend their programs. Your stats are very good. If you don't botch the interview (i.e. come dressed as a slob or act obnoxious) you will probably get accepted at the school of your choice.

First off, I think you have a really strong chance of being offered an interview! You have a great GPA and a very competitive OAT score!

Being accepted is a different story, the interview plays a big part, but having a very strong academic profile like yourself, that will give you a big boost among other applicants, even if your interview may not go that well. Schools will take a lot of things into consideration into an acceptance, it may not just come down to the interview, but interviews can play a huge role depending on the school.

Your optomcas class plays a huge role, before being offered an interview, schools need to see proof that you can handle optometry school and the curriculum. And also being a well-rounded person is a plus because I think a lot of schools are looking for well-rounded applicants and your optomcas will help paint a picture of you on paper! It will give schools an idea of who you are, what you have accomplished, and what are you capable of. So don't take your optomcas lightly at all!
