I just completed my DAT's yesterday.
AA 19
OC 20
GC 21
QR 17
RC 18
Bio 18
PAT 23

My undergrad GPA (went to Penn State) is a 3.24 with a science GPA of 3.16. My grad school GPA (went to U of RI for physical therapy) was a 3.5 with a 3.45 in the sciences. I'll admit that I never taken a general bio course so the bio section of the DAT was really tough to take and study, but I am curious to know how are my chances of getting into a school? I am currently only applying to TX schools (my wife works in TX) for entrance into the 2008 class. One problem is that I will not become a TX resident until the beginning of December.

Hey there,
I think your QR looks a little low but the other scores are solid. Snoop around different school's websites to get a feel for what their Avg. scores are for admitted students. 2 things I would advise you on though:
1) apply to more schools. I know you probably really want to go to Tx, but what happens if you're rejected? Are you willing to go through another cycle?
2) I'm not sure from your post, but in order to be considered a Tx resident you have to have lived in the state for 12 months prior to entering school. If you're a student during those 12 months, you're not considered a resident. Google should help you find more info. Good luck

actually, you have to be residing in TX 12 months prior to applying. If accepted I will be a TX resident in regard to tuition, but I made the mistake of moving too late to TX thinking that I would be considered a resident if I was present a year before enrollment...wrong! It does not even help if I own property in TX (which I will in several months). My plan is to just apply to TX schools this year as my wife is working in Austin. All TX schools have a letter attached to my application stating I will be a TX resident as of Dec. 2007, so I am hoping that would help but if it does not, then my plan is to apply to TX schools one more time next year and if that fails, then apply to TX yet again and to school's nationally. My wife and I do not want to move again, plus I have definite back-ups (friends on admission boards) at several private schools which are EXPENSIVE so another reason to get into a TX school.

As for my QR, yeah, I am pissed about my score. My stupid markers ran out of ink and it took the guy at the testing center 2-3 minutes to get me new ones, but anxiety took over and I lost focus. I saw an earlier post by someone complaining about a long ethics essay on the RC...I got the same one too...I took many practice exams and I actually was averaging above 21 for RC and QR...I was mad at myself for screwing up on the actual test...I got a ton of long winded word problems and could not concentrate after that stupid marker incident. I thought about taking it over to increase my score, but considering my situation right now (out of state status) I'll just wait and determine if I'll take it again next year...anyways, I have to wait 3 months to take it that would mean I would have to take it in Jan. I was actually happy with my bio score as I was averaging 16's...I did not take general bio when I was an undergrad opting for anatomy, mammalian anatomy/physiology...what do plants, taxonomy, and evolution (except wisdom teeth) have to do with dentistry? Hate bio...straight up memorizing useless and boring info. Hopefully, my graduate school education will at least get me an interview but I am being realistic and accepting the fact I have to wait a year...no problem, work as a PT and volunteer at a research lab...

Hmmm, I was told my schools that in order to be a Tx resident, you have to have lived here for 12 months prior to joining school. I understand the whole not wanting to move thing though. My hubby works here, has a job he absolutely loves, and I just don't have the heart to ask him to move.

Anyways, good luck. Don't sweat the QR, as that seems to be the trend these days. I think you have a good shot, especially considering your graduate work.

Thanks! 🙂

and for those interested in TX schools as a resident, make sure you move here 12 months prior to Aug. 1st so you are considered a resident for your application!!!
