Hey guys, first of all thanks to everyone for replying and helping me get to where I am these past 6 or so years. Gosh i was and am an avid reader of studentdoctor.
I apologize if this is not the correct place to post this, but I have been researching it and haven't found a similar thread or a question, so I decided to post it. I would really appreciate your input as I am having a tough time deciding between a program. I am wanting to do Internal medicine residency.

So I rotate at Magnolia and I really enjoyed it. I learned so much and felt like the way the program director was approaching our education I would be an excellent physician when i finish my residency. The only problem it is 9 hours away from home. I have already been away from home for four year.

The other program or programs I'm looking towards is the Scott and White program in Round Rock, Texas (i believe it's a new and sort of like a satellite site from Temple, texas). From what I researched regarding the program and its didactics, it seems it would be similar to what I was accustomed to at magnolia and obviously since being a program off of Scott and White, Temple, Texas (TAMU) they would have everything in place rather than a brand new program with it's risks and benefits.

My question is how do I go about deciding bw these two. I am a self motivated learner, I did my third with zero didactics, grand rounds, and still was on par and above in terms of knowledge when I did auditions at places with didactics and such. I know that I'll have to work harder at a newer program than an established one, I am willing to do that. I have learned things at Magnolia that I do on a regular basis now such as keeping uptodate with current literature, guidelines, articles, blahh...... I just want to know how people who have had to tackle this have gone about it. How choosing a newer program affected you or such? I would really appreciate it. I really do miss being home and friends.

Thank you for your help.

go with the program that you like better and you believe will give you the exposure to be a well trained hospitalist.

I haven't even heard of either of these programs but a good rule of thumb is go by feel and fit.

In terms of new vs old program, it kind of depends on what you want to do. If you want a competitive fellowship, perhaps the more established program or either program that has that fellowship would be the better option.
