I've heard that all you need to do is study some index cards. True or false?

Any additional advice and input on how to prepare for NDBE I is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
=)

Decks once, a few old exams, pray hard and get a good nights sleep.

What do you suggest if your aiming for over 95 and you've got 5-6 weeks

time to prep? I'm definately going to go over the USMLE book..what else?

I went through the decks 12 times

How you prepare must take into account the effort you put into your coursework prior to taking the exam.

Minimal effort will require greater effort studying for the exam. Many people around here will say they rolled through the cards once or twice, and then got a 90 or better. I don't doubt that was the case, but they also are probably top of their class and worked their tails off during their first two years.

If you are in the middle of your class and confused about some aspects of your science curriculum, then you shouldn't expect to put forth minimal effort and rock the exam.

I went through the decks three times and took almost all of the old test. I had three weeks to get ready and that was planty of time. I ended up with a 93.

Well, I got a 95 and only had about that time to study, and did what I recommended above. I didn'tbother with USMLE...thought it would take up too much of my own time. I've heard it can be helpful beyond decks and old exams. Reality is, if you learned the material well in class the first time around, studying will be more of a refresher (which is what you want it to be) and you'll do fine. Otherwise, what Gavin said is on the money.
