I'm having a hard time deciding what to use to study for the DAT. I heard the Kaplan class is a waste of money, and the DAT destroyer is a good book but you need to know your stuff before going through these questions. I need to review all of the subjects before attempting practice questions but I don't know what books to use. Should I review stuff from my class textbooks? How did you review the material for the different DAT subjects, and what books did you use? Did you use any of the Kaplan material (Kaplan Blue Book or the Kaplan class)? Thanks!

I am using Kaplan, topscore pro, schuam's outlines for bio, & destroyer ofcourse. i read schuam's bio chapters but didnt really memorize any stuff because it has a lot of info but it is very helpful. then I read & understood kaplan's bio chaps while making index cards. & now I am working on destroyer bio questions, which is extremely difficult. I have my physiology, anatomy, general biology, genetics textbooks & schuam's outlines for bio open in front of me while working on destroyer's questions. As I am working thru destroyer I go back to these books & read that particular topic & make notecards on them. I dont just focus on correct answer I also understand why the answer is wrong & make an index card on those topic as well. So just from 1 questions i learn about 4-5 different topics.

Its really hard to explain, but basically what I am trying to say is that your textbooks will be really helpful while studying from destroyer. because destroyer is challenging with detailed information that you must have learned from those textbooks when you took that particular course at your college. Kaplan is more like overview of biology, whereas schuam's & destroyer go in depth to explain each & every single topic of bio.

I hope that helps

I would use the Kaplan blue book to start. It gives a good foundation for the DAT providing good coverage on most of the sections of the DAT. Kaplan is a little weak in the Biology section though, so I used schaum's outline of biology to help fill in some weak spots. I also used topscore pro after I had done most of my studying for some really good practice exams on the computer. I personally did not use DAT destroyer and did very well, but probably would have purchased it as well if I knew about it. Its basically a large set of DAT practice questions with indepth answers, so it will be most useful after you have a good foundation first - so start with the kaplan book. Good luck.

Kaplan Blue Book
Schaum's Outline of Biology
