Hello everyone.

Junior year I'm planning on having this schedule:

Fall: Orgo 2, Bio 2, Genetics, Nutrition & Metabolism
Spring: Physics 2, Biochem, Cell Biology

I'm planning on taking the MCAT in the summer as early as possible.

Thank you!

I would try to get an easier load for the spring semester if I was planning on taking MCAT in April/May. But I don't know if that's even a choice for you.

The thing is that I had a rough first year and poor planning and as a result I'm stuck with too many difficult classes.

I'm a rising sophomore and here's what the next semesters look like, I've tried to lighten the difficulty of each semester but I honestly don't know if I can. Does anything strike out as a bad combo or do you see something I could do?

I'm also minoring in nutrition.

Sophomore:
Fall : chem 2, physics 1, stats, intro to food sci
Spring: orgo 1, bio 1, sociology, nutrition
Summer: Study abroad & take psychology course.

I feel like I'm either forced to follow through or to take a gap year.

I would take these classes your sophomore year:

Fall - Chem 2, Bio 1
Spring - Orgo 1, Bio 2

Summer - If you don't do study abroad, you can take Orgo 2 or even an entire year of physics (check if your school offers that).

If you take Orgo 2 in the Summer, then:
Fall - Biochem, Physics 1, Genetics
Spring - Physics 2, Cell Bio

If you take Physics I and II in the Summer:
Fall - Ochem 2, Genetics
Spring - Biochem

At my school Biochem is also prerequisite for Cell Bio so I don't know if you can even take that (since we are both in FL I would assume class prerequisites are similar 😀)

I don't know if you should or even if it's possible for you to take genetics and bio 2 at the same time since bio 2 is a prerequisite for cell bio and genetics. (This is how it works at my uni I'm a bio major) a typical sophomore year for me looks like

Fall:
Orgo Chem 1
Cell Bio
Psych
Neuro
Plus other classes

Spring:
Orgo chem. 2
Genetics
Psych
Integrative lab
Bio psych
Plus other classes

Aside from the psych neuroscience and lab classes this is what is mostly looks like during sophomore year since you just finished all the basic classes. Also it will be hard to take nutrition and bio 2 at the same time. From what I remember bio 2 was human and animal body systems so you learn all that before hand. It could be helpful since it's double the info but I think that's rarely the occasion since you can get the same stuff wrong twice instead of learning from the mistaks of bio 2. Also why aren't you taking the sequences together? Have u taken physics 1 already bc most ppl push physics 1/2 and calc 1/2 to junior year or sophomore year summer if they are short on time giving them breathing room.

Your year looks tough only because your courses seem scattered and out of order. All science classes are purposely sequenced because the info you learn from the sequence beforehand directly benefits the one after. It becomes harder when you take these all at the same time having to cram info and memorize instead of actually learning to deduce the answer based on previous knowledge. I'd say look over you schedule one more time.

Thank you! I can't change my schedule for this upcoming Fall, all the bio spots are taken and I guess we go to different schools because Cell Bio only has Bio 2 as a prerequisite. I've been contemplating not studying abroad and taking a class during that time but I'm looking forward to it so much that I don't think it's worth it. Thanks for taking the time to help! 🙂
