Have there been people in the past that have transferred from say a private school to a state school?

yes, ive met a few...very few...and the way they put it, its close to impossible...the only way in hell you could ever do that is to have extenuating circumstances...i don't know the procedure...its so complicated, I don't even wanna know it.

but it IS possible, and if you really wanna do that, do it!

It is possible but only a handful of schools even allow it. And most allow it after the 2nd year. Switching after the first year can be a delicate matter because the odds are great that the curriculums don't match and some courses will be lost in the transfer.

Curriculum mismatch is the biggest issue. Space availability closely follows.

A good question to ask when interviewing is, "What is your attrition rate?" I have heard that some dental schools will admit up to 30% more than they anticipate graduating (weeding out by the end of the second year). Schools with low rates are probably more selective, ensuring admission of a successful students. In this case, should they have a struggling student(s) due to extenuating personal circumstances (life is not always a smooth road!), I assume they would, or do, make accommodations to ensure the continued enrollment of the student. That's being student-centered! Isn't your success then, their success?
