How do I choose a stethoscope?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey I just got a gift from a coworker (neurologist) of a Littmann Master Classic II. Will this be good enough for school/rotations? I'm not sure if it's single or double tubing or what to listen for really, but it does have that tunable single sided diaphragm.

Thoughts?

Its single tubing, but it will get you through rotations.

On a side note, I have picked up murmurs that attendings have missed. My team looks at me like I have auditory hallucinations. Anyone else have this problem? (the hyperacuisis... not the hallucinations). And yes, my findings were confirmed with Echo.

all heart has a $26 generic cardiology scope that is a knock off of the Littman Cardiology III. Save money and get it. I think the Littman cardio III is more flexible with softer ear pieces but if you need something cheap and replaceable if you lose it, go to all heart and get their generic cardiology scope.

NO that scope SUCKS!

The AH Cardio is so loose (in the ear pieces) that after a few uses, it won't hold on to your head. Don't waste your money!

I got my DRG Cardiology in the mail on Friday for $89 Shipped (brand new) from ebay. I have a master of cardiology from littmann as well, and I would say the DRG holds its own in workmanship, and I just wanted one with separate bell/diaphragm that was non-tunable.

Thought I'd post this if anyone wants something with a decent price:

DRG Cardiology - Balkowitsch Enterprises, Inc.

I think it's $90 shipped now, but if they don't have that one available any more you could always shoot them an email and they should be able to get you one at that price.
