If I got a 187 on step I, am a DO with 53%tile on the COMLEX, what in gods name would I have to do to get a radiology residency, DO or MD? Please be serious.

I think its safe to say you can forget about MD resdiencies.....

You need to really really look into the DO programs.....you need to rotate through their radiology department, and even some other departments that work with Radiology, like ER, or Surgery, or something. You need to get to know a program very well and have a strong application otherwise...get good grades on clinicals and kick butt on Step 2/Level 2. You might have to come up with an explanation for why your USMLE is what it is.

Don't let your scores discourage you from applying though because if radiology is the specialty you want to do, then go for it.

I would definitely study hard for Step 2, take it early enough so if it's awesome, you can release it and have it as part of your application, but late enough so if you bomb it, you can keep it from showing up. But it's very important you destroy the exam and then people will look less hard at your Step 1. However, you will miss many cutoffs, so as said above, you need to pick 1 or 2 programs and rotate there, do research, develop a good relationship with someone. This is all very important.
