Hey,

I was wondering if anyone here would chime in with some tips on how to get long term volunteer experiences. Do i just start off as a short term volunteer and then take it from there or is there a specific way to attain such activities? Networking, family connections etc (I have none of those 🙁)

I am getting my CNA this summer as i signed up for the program. Once i have attained it (i live in MD btw) how do i use it? Since it's a job i am looking for do i need to go full out job hunting mode with a resume etc or should i just call local hospitals (i really want to work in a large hospital) or a local hospice and tell them i have a CNA and ask if they have any job openings?

Thanks.

Long-term volunteering is simple: find a volunteer activity that you enjoy doing, it could be anything from habitat for humanity to hospital volunteering. Do this for an extended period of time and bada-bing! you can check off your long term volunteering!

To look for a CNA position, try checking out the careers section of hospitals in your area, a quick job search should yield numerous openings for part-time, or occasionally, PRN jobs.

Thanks for the help. I am also trying to do something unique so i won't be the average pre-med cookie cutter.

I did nursing home and a ER volunteering for years in college. It looks much better on your app to say you did xyz for 2 hrs a week for 4 years, than listing 5 things sporadically.

You volunteer at something you like to do and you continue doing it for a long time. Is quite simple, just make sure you enjoy the activity otherwise it'll become a burden
