How do I get rid of the formaldehyde smell on my hands?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the cadavers we had were doped with formalin...

but as soon as we enter the lab we feel the formalin cocentration and almost all of us have tears in our eyes and breathing becomes quite difficult but it becomes much better after some time.
but it all starts out again when someone cuts a nerve or do deeper dissection:scared:

and i had problems with my contacts. my eyesight became kinda blurry and somewhat like whitish.. i didnt get why it happened
then after two days i realized that the formalin was responsible and started using specs..
and how harmful is formalin?
coz i have to eat after my dissection classes..
if i did know about it being harmful may be i could sacrifice my scapel to my friends!😀

Formalin is an aqueous solution of formaldehyde -- it is the same formaldehyde cadaver fixing agent everyone in this thread is talking about. It is a probable carcinogen or carcinogen (depending on which organization's standards you follow), and can certainly cause dermatitis and allergic reactions in some people, so safety precautions ought to be taken. However thousands of med students annually go through the same rite of passage without consequence. And wash up before lunch --best to eat as little formalin as you can.

This is wise advise! I developed urticarial vasculitis and serum sickness from formaldehyde exposure in our gross anatomy lab. I had to go on prednisolone for 3 months! Serious reactions are uncommon but they do happen. I don't wish what I went through on anyone - so protect yourself!!

You can also try taking a hot bubble bath... That's what I used to do to get rid of the smell.

I plan on taking a bubble bath with mittens on, otherwise the whole 'bubble bath' experience is ruined by cadaver juice aromatherapy.
