I'm going to keep it basic: starting this fall will be fourth year of undergrad at a state school in California. I was originally a bio major and changed to psych. I decided to do so after being discouraged by my lack of engagement in the sciences (there's a lot more to it, I was young, uninformed, unmotivated, and not taking things as seriously as I should have). I'm the first in my family to attend college as well so the whole process in itself was confusing to me. Anyway, let's fast forward: now that I'm more certain of my goals (I want to become a PA) I am having trouble deciding how to go about this.
My overall gpa isn't so stellar (3.0 gpa). I have no extra curriculars as I was too busy working multiple jobs to pay my way through school, and have a low science gpa of ~2.6
This fall I will be finishing up my requirements for my bachelors and volunteer/train to be an emt. My question is: should I do a formal post-bac to boost my science gpa or just retake the classes at my local community college before applying to PA school?
From what I've seen. It seems formal post bac health profession programs are geared for those looking to apply to med school with more in depth coursework whereas most of the requirements for pa school seem to require less, as shown:
1. Human Anatomy with labrecommended within five years of application deadline*
2. Human Physiology with labrecommended within five years of application deadline*
3. General Chemistry with lab
4. Microbiology or bacteriology with lab
5. Algebra, Calculus or Statistics
6. English Composition
7. Two courses in Social Sciences
I would personally prefer a formal post-bac to renew and review the basics of pretty much all the science related material I feel I merely glossed over, however, time and money is the issue. What would you recommend me to do or how should I go about this?
*I should mention that while I was a bio major, I completed all the above requirements with the exception of human physio and microbiology
