Sorry it’s an open-ended question. But I was just wondering about any experiences that current med students or doctor might have with doing international rotations as an M4?

Here are some specific questions I have:

1) What countries are the easiest or most convenient to get a rotation at? I want to do France since I’m learning French.

2) How does grading work?

3) Do some schools offer to help you out financially? I think UMichigan does this.

4) During which period in med school do you do this? Can you do it after Match day?

5) How long are the limits? I would like to go for as long as possible to get the full experience!!!

6) How is it arranged? Does your school have a list of international sites?

7) In general, what was the experience like for you? Did you get to experience the city you were in?

I didn't do this, but of the people in my class I know of who did, the rotations were done either right around match day or afterward. I've seen people rotate in countries such as Taiwan, the Dominican Republic, and Kenya.

It seems like most students are doing their rotations outside of Europe. Does your school have any sites in Europe?

No idea, since I never looked into it myself. I know the students in Taiwan & DR are from there originally or have family there, so they may have set up those rotations themselves. I don't know if the school actually has any foreign affiliates.
