Hi,

I am taking a gap year so my senior year grades will be accounted for in my application. Due to personal reasons, my gpa dropped by .1-ish during senior year. How do medical schools generally view senior year grade drops like this?

thanks!

More info: my gpa was at average or above average at top 20s now it is at average or below average. Junior year I had a 4.0.

No, for the 2 semesters of junior year with hard science classes I had a 4.0. My cumulative is not a 4.0.

if the .1 drop doesn't affect your science gpa then I'd say you don't have to worry tooooo much. But overall, if it's still a competitive gpa (like if you went from 3.8 to 3.7) and if you have a good mcat, you're still running strong.

The drop will mostly affect my science GPA, which will drop by .2. Due to a personal/family issue that arose, I failed 3 exams during the span of 2 weeks and had to ace the final on all the classes to pull out Bs. The situation can be explained if only they interview me. Does it help that on the science sections combined on the MCAT I scored 27 out of 30.

I'd say that would show you know science. Did you get at least a 8 on verbal?

Still have no idea whether your cGPA or total sGPA is a 2.8 or a 3.8...and that's a pretty strange way to describe your MCAT score (just providing the sciences)...does that mean your verbal score is low in comparison? Verbal is just as important as the science sections to adcoms....with a 27 on the sciences you could still have a 32 (with in this case would be bad news with a terrible verbal) vs. a 42.

Adcoms look at the total picture, so if you're at all for real you're not going to get much helpful advice by being this cagey about providing your basic scores/stats.

I just want to try to maintain degree of anonymity. I received a 10 on the verbal and Q on the writing section.

Well in that case, your first mistake was choosing UMICHPremed as a nickname. 😉

Quit being paranoid you know how many people have a 37Q? Too many to try to ID all of them and I'll bet my left nut that you're not even the only one at michigan this year.
