I'm thinking about doing a one year residency after dental school. I would like more experience, plus it's required if I want to practice in NY. What should I be doing right now to improve my chances of getting into a residency of my choice after 4th year? Should I try to maintain a high GPA? Extracurriculars? Leadership?

I'm a D2, so no serious plans yet. I'm just casually thinking about the future (even though I should be studying right now!). I don't know anything at all about GPRs or how they work. If you guys can share some basic information, or point me to where I can get info, I would appreciate it very much! Thanks

Currently applying to GPRs and AEGDs. I come from a pass/no pass school so GPA doesn't matter. I would just suggest getting involved in some clubs, be active, do community volunteering - basically something to put on your CV. When it came time for applying, I emailed the programs I was interested in asking if I could go visit the program. Usually they are very open about it and are willing to let you go visit (usually around the time you apply). I didn't actually visit the programs because of scheduling, but expressing my interest in the program definitely helped (I got interviews there). If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.
