I know that you can take out Stafford and Perkins loans but the amount one can get from these loans still will not pay for a psy.d. degree. I know you can still take out a private loan, but if you don't have a co-signer for that loan what do you do?

I *believe* Grad Plus loans allow you to take out more money for an extended period of time with a slightly higher interest rate. I know that med students take out these loans to help pay their expenses, which tend to be much higher than the typical psych student's. I expect some PsyD students may do the same.

I am paying for my program with a combination of scholarship, GA, and Stafford loans. It covers the whole thing and (if I accepted all the money I am offered, which I am not) then some to live on.
