Hello,,, I got accepted to OSU, and have decided to come this Aug.
and I'm from western NY, and don't know anyone there.
How do u guys find roommates? or should I get a one bed?
I really don't wanna live with immature undergraduate(NOT all undergraduate, u know some..) who parties everyday.. or any weirdo....should i contact the school??????
I would love to live with any graduate students or,,professional students,, where can I find them??????????

thanks in advance...

You might want to look into if there is a mailing list or listserv at your school for graduate students/recent grads.

You can always try out the Craigslist in your area too. I know several people who had good experiences finding "academic" roommates using that.

At one of the schools I interviewed at I know they would try and help you find roomates. You submitted a short profile about yourself to the pharmacy school and they would send it out to the other new students. See if that's available.

I found all my past roomates through craiglist and roomates.com. No real bad experiances but in the end I prefer living alone. Once I start school I'm going to live alone as well and if I can't make it financially then I will get a roomate (hopefully that won't happen though).

My roommate is in my class and it's worked out great. Get in touch
with students at the college of pharmacy and see if they know any of the incoming P1's or if any older students need roommates.

Every school I have talked to is more than willing to help you find roommates that are in your class.

I've had some really WEIRD roommates from using craigslist ... including a pot head medical student who went black widow hunting in the fall when he got high (they mate in the fall). I even had a blog about all the strange adventures and events that occured in the house.

It wasn't a bad experience, just a really random and strange one

lmao

That house was soooooooo...oooooo messed up. The electrical wiring in our house was messed up, so the only way we could figure out how to turn on the 2nd floor hallway light was by pressing down the toaster in the kitchen (toaster didn't work anyways). One of the random Craigslist roommates was taken aside by TSA for trying to bring a battle axe, yes thats right ... a BATTLE AXE from some random Renaissance fair, onto a plane.

thank you guys for the advices.I guess I am gonna contact the school first, then figure it out....🙂

It really depends on what type of a room mate you want. If you get annoyed easily by someone who lives with you, then it might be better for you to live alone and just have people over whenever you want instead of having one person over all the time.

I was looking for a roommate to rent a room in my apartment and craigslist seemed good. The thing is that you have to visit the apartment and talk to the roommates before renting out the place, which might be hard if the school is far away. Also don't go with the first thing you see, look around at a few apartments, interview people who live there, and you're bound to find something. Eventually we found a serious grad student that rented the room. He hasn't moved in yet, but I met him and he seems like he'd make a good roommate.
