How do we know the ADCOMs on this site are actually ADCOMS?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There are rumors on reddit that there are trolls on here claiming to be ADCOMs.

What is the verification process since anyone can sign up and call themselves "academic administration."

It's pretty easy to google a faculty member once you've got their email and make sure they're legit. Also keep in mind that many of the people who have been here a while actually know one another- I don't know how deep that runs with faculty, but I'd imagine there's a couple people that know who most of them are in the real world.

I can't lie, the thought has crossed my mind before (which I'm sure it's crossed the mind of most around here at least once). YES I believe the faculty badge members are who they say they are, but at the end of the day I've realized it's irrelevant who everyone really is. you get some fantastic, potentially life-changing advice on here if you use the resource the right way, and if you have half a brain, you can sift through the "bad" to find the "good". I know I wouldn't even be close to where I am without that "good", regardless of if @Goro is an ADCOM member or an electrician 😛 Just teasing ya Goro haha

They are a paranoid bunch over there. I like the one claiming to be suing SDN.
He solicited internet advice, didn't make a good choice based on what the inter web told him, and now wants to sue.
Those mother....s are going to pay for their bad advice!
Now now. Lets not rustle anyone's jimmies.

Some of us are/were committee members and don't even have a faculty badge. Figure that out reddit or are you too distracted by Jennifer Lawrence?

Grrrrr I'm actually pissed at reddit rn

Why can't this "war" be with 4chan? 't would make things much more livelier around here.

Lol the same guy uses 5 browsers logged in to different accounts:
IE: @LizzyM (old school)
Firefox: @Goro (old but new age)
Chrome: @Psai (millennial)
Safari: @gyngyn (tech savvy)
Opera: @Winged Scapula (b/c she can)

LOL…no Windows/Android products.

I'm an Apple Fan girl and use Safari because I can. 😉

I'm simply impressed they've managed to call you both Simon Cowell and drunk within the same line of thought. Aspiring to big things!
No idea why there's hate for Goro on reddit. I actually think he's generally one of the more chill adcoms, not to mention his profile pic is of a cat. The cat is how he won me over, at least.

Because @Goro (much like others on this forum) values honesty and doesn't enjoy sugar coating things. While I admit SDN can be incredibly neurotic at times, R/Premed is known for being blindly ignorant of the facts in front of them (i.e. "I've taken the MCAT six times I can still get into Harvard right?").

He's very honest and to the point, which I think very few people appreciate. They'd rather be told "anything is possible if you just try really hard!" and not "your chances of acceptance are extremely low." I think too many pre-med advisors sugar coat things (either because they don't know any better or they don't want to crush someone's dreams) and then they come to SDN and hear more honest and usually more knowledgable feedback.

Reddit has kind of taken over 4chan's reigns of being everything horrible about the internet all in one convenient place, so that's not surprising.
Meh, nothing even close to the "Dub the Dew" incident has come out of Reddit, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Reddit has quite a way to go...

It's much of the same old crap (doxxing, harassment, trolling, and lies) but watered down by a lack of anonymity and people pandering to each other via the vote system. But when you need some real damage, 4chan is still the prime evil of the tubes.

So true... Goro, LizzyM, and GynGyn keep it real and do not beat around the bush when your app is not up to par. This is what people need. However, people always seem to neglect the fact that while LizzyM or Goro might tell you your app is trash (never in those words), they always give you options and tell you how or where to improve to become more competitive. Ultimately, their advice can easily help you save thousands of dollars. People are so ungrateful...

Being a New Yorker, I can see that some people can't tolerate cold, harsh truths. The pathologic reactions over on reddit seem to be a Millennial thing. I've definitely noticed this in my students as well. I sweer, I have sum students sew thin-skinned that light passes right through them.

Note: typos are deliberate to annoy the spelling nazis over there.

I follow the pre-med subreddit, and the few times that I do actually post I'm typically downvoted. The fundamental organization of reddit (make opinions you like more visible, make opinions you don't like less visible) makes the communities more vulnerable to groupthink, irrespective of how reflective of reality those ideas might be. The pre-med subreddit is hopelessly optimistic in a way that doesn't do most applicants justice.

You missed the more subtle typo that will only annoy the most anal of spelling nazis (aka me): definately. Or if you really want to go all out: defiantly 😀

My life in a nutshell
I don't know about everyone else, but the no sugarcoating straight to the facts nature of SDN was what drew me to it. The medical school admissions process isn't something to be taken lightly. Why anyone would wish to lollygag around pretending they're on safe footing when they're really at the edge is beyond me.

take with a grain of salt all you read on an internet forum, when it comes to medical school admissions there are great well intentioned adcoms here, but at the end of the day every application, and every school is unique to their process, and there is no perfect formula to apply! I know someone who graduate from Brown had a 3.9 cGPA a 4.0 sGPA, and a 36 on the MCAT, also great LOR and extracurriculars, he applied to several us schools and got not a single offer, now he is studying at mcgill medical school!

McGill is one of the highest ranked medical schools in the world. I don't get what you're trying to poke at on this one.

Hahaha, I also read those threads over there. It has me thinking too, but the people on reddit are just paranoid people lol. They (LizzyM, Goro, etc) still give good advice, though.

The problem with anecdotes like this (and they're plentiful) is that they're inherently incomplete. Just yesterday, for example, we rejected an applicant at our admissions committee meeting with a near-4.0 GPA, an MCAT > 40, and overall strong app on paper. That's not everything, i.e., people can commonly choke in interviews.

In other words, a circle-jerk.

Simply he was rejected from all USA schools he applied but he was accepted to a highly ranked school in another country! so there is no magic formula !

No he was American
