How do you answer this question?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just answered honestly. The only school that I remember asking me that question was the school that I ended up attending.

Agreed. I interviewed at a number of programs and it was only brought up once. UNE makes you list all schools you have applied/are applying to which was a lot for me but I was honest and they accepted me. My two cents: stick with complete honesty and try steer the question towards what their specific program has to offer and why you chose to apply. No one can be naive enough to assume you only applied to one program...

That's rather strange that question would come up in an interview! I understand why ask: "Why DO, did you only apply to DO" but which schools in particular, thats odd because...

...I totally agree. It really shouldn't matter to the school why you chose other schools, but why you applied to THEIR school in the first place.

At my school, we're not allowed to ask that....so I'm kinda appalled. So, if it's fair game at that school, just be truthful and answer the questions. What they're fishing for is "why come here, if you can already go there?" You should have a ready answer for that.

How do you answer the question during interviews when they ask---"what other DO schools are you applying to?" Or the question, have you received interviews or acceptances for any other DO schools?

Thanks!

I answered honestly. I answered the follow up question (paraphrased) of 'Why do you think you haven't gotten an acceptance yet? You have good stats.' honestly as I could.

I don't think they were trying for a "gotcha" moment, I believe they were trying to see how I would handle myself under pressure. As a physician you are going to have your opinions and judgement questioned constantly. It's a good idea to see how you handle pressure before you start school.

I answered honesty and used it to my benefit. I identified my top choices and referenced the central mission that attracted me to the group of schools (don't BS...they will see right through it). I would then use that to lead into how part of the process of applying to medical school is not only searching for an institution that identifies me as a good fit, but that another important factor is determining the correct school to fit with me-symbiotic relationship, synergetic...whatever.

Also-I used my acceptances to my advantage as well. I said with every bit of conviction (because I meant it), during my interview at ECU-Brody School of Medicine, if there came a day that I received an acceptance letter from ECU, I would cancel all other acceptances and interviews to immediately sign on the dotted line. I then quickly explained why Brody was my top choice-didn't suck up, didn't come across as cocky-it was my goal and I stated it with passion and clarity. Hopefully this helps!

I answered honestly and half way listing osteopathic schools they stopped me and said "how many MD?" I answered that honestly as well. It went okay because I was accepted.
