How do you answer "Why DO?" in interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No, I'm not sharing. You'll have to work this out on your own.

Not sure if it has been suggested as I have not read the responses but along the lines of "I'm interested in how the musculoskeletal structures and dynamics of the body influence its function" is a great way to start. Perhaps @Goro can help.

one of the best ways to address this is by talking about your experience with healthcare, shadowing, etc. - let them know you ACTUALLY know what osteopathic medicine is. ".

Playing devil's advocate here, what if every DO you've worked for or shadowed has told you no difference and also not acted different?

Again not looking for you guys to answer the question for me, but what do I have to talk about other than the sameness I've been exposed to?

At the end of the day there is no difference. Both want to treat and help their patients out the best they can. But look and see what DO schools are good at. This is just an example. Do you have primary care experience? Volunteered at a free clinic? Maybe you would like to go into primary care. If you are then you should know DO schools are the top at producing primary care physicians. If you know about it, you can mention the use of OMM, but only if you know about it. I personally did not mention it because I did not know much about OMM. If you want to learn more about the history of DO then you should read the DO, but please do not recite it in an interview. Relate some of the topics with your own personal experiences. Are you applying this coming cycle?

Yeah. I worked the ER and family med settings with DO. Also shadowed a DO surgeon a bit. All just liked helping people and none of them used omm.

I would like to go into primary care. I just know that there is that question, why DO, and all I know right now is that it's just another med school that will allow me to complete my goals and become a doctor. I just don't want to be too shallow in the essay prompt when applying because I'm only applying to one DO because I am a Texas resident and I would be happy to get into any of the 10 in Texas.

I can understand that, but you probably should look up some ideas of osteopathic medicine and relate it to yourself. It does not even have to solely be about osteopathic medicine. You can talk about preventive care by looking at the whole persons lifestyle. Both MD and DO look at that but, that is a big part of the DO philosophy. I wish you luck on your applications! If you have any questions or want someone to read your personal statement message me.
