Hi, I am a first year student at U of T and I've already submitted my application for the 2008 cycle, but I've heard alot of concerns about the UTPAT Which I am going to write in March, so I am desperate for some advice.

Do you think practicing how to answer those IQ questions would help me do better or you can't prepare for those?

And did you all ace the essay part because , be honest, you were already a good writer to begin with?I am not, obviously.

And also, sorry for asking so many questions, do you think reading books about ethical issues in pharmacy would help?Any help is appreaciated ! Thank you all!

Cheers

I wrote the UTPAT in 2005 and was offered admission. I didn't do anything specific to prepare for it other than reviewing the UT Pharmacy website. Make sure that you know details about the program.

I do think IQ type questions would be helpful, there were plenty of those conceptual problem solving questions.

As for the essay, I think I'm a pretty good writer (and an opinionated one at that!) but I'm not too sure it would have mattered much since I'm sure my essay was illegible. As for ethical issues, I can't remember it even being apart of the test, but I suppose that could change. That said it wouldn't hurt to start broadly reading alot of stuff just to get your mind thinking and maybe be aware of some things happening in the world, particularily anything health care, not necessarily pharmacy.

The UTPAT in 2005 was quite significantly different from the later versions. I know this because my sister wrote it in 2005 and I did in 2006. When we discussed what was on the test, we found out they updated the test to include more sections. With that being said, what jefguth offered is good advice.

An interesting note is that this is the last admission round in which U of T will be using the UTPAT. In the 2009 cycle, they will start using the PCAT. From what my e-mail read, PCAT results starting from June 2007 will be accepted for the 2009 admission cycle.
