i know that it helps to concentrate, i want to try it, but i can't buy them at stores without the prescription.

I wonder how it makes you feel after you take one pill? how can this one pill makes someone to concentrate? can't you do that by yourself?

before any idiots who want to lock this thread as they did in the medical student forum, i want to tell you that you are wrong.

1. you automatically assume that anyone who takes ritalin must be abusing the drug.

2. you think that all medical students have no ADD.

3. I didn't ask "drug abusers" to answer my question, I was just asking a simple question, I didn't ask anyone to sell me some, either.

4. If I ask a question about how it feels like after taking viagra, are you also going to call me a troll and lock the thread?

why don't you take it then come back and tell us how you feel.

You have a burst of energy...you become less apathetic....you can read a paragraph without stopping to daydream for 20 minutes every paragraph. It does more for people like me that actually have ADD.

If you can, then it's probably not something you should worry about taking, yes?

Edit: To answer your question, it allows you to pay attention to a lecture without progressing from peanuts -> Mr. Planters -> I wonder what my professor would look like in a monocle and a top hat -> Or a banana suit -> Where have I seen a banana suit before -> Oh, right, where are we in the notes...What happened to the last six slides?

I will refrain from any douche bag answer I would usually give.

So I will make a different point:
However there is a legitimate need to take the drug. As pharmacists we cannot say that someone on ritalin is necessarily a drug abuser. We cannot profile that way unless you give a reason to. It also is not common that even professionals may have a reason to be on these medications. You probably would raise a few eyebrows if I was dispensing Ritalin to a known MD student, but its not my place to judge.

It makes me want to party (you know, like most other stimulants, cocaine, meth, etc.). Never helped me to "study" or "concentrate", that sort of **** is for the weak minded.

Every drug that I've taken, whether OTC or prescribed or recreational (and legal!), has some sort of side effect. You figure out if the problem you want to fix or the positive effects of the drug are worth the negative ones. If this is a prescribed drug, you figure this out in part by talking to a doctor.

Advil/Ibuprofen can make your sore muscles get better, but several people avoid it because it can cause them stomach issues. Certain anti-depressants reduce interest in sexual activity, which could make the cure worse than the disease with some but not others. Chemotherapeutic agents can cure your cancer, but some carry the risk of heart failure and death. And almost everyone who drinks likes the relaxing effect of alcohol, some like getting drunk, but I've never met someone who likes the hangover aspect.

The question you should be asking is what benefits can you get from Ritalin and what negative side effects are you at risk for. If your issues are affecting your quality of life enough, you can try a prescription and see if the side effects you individually have are worth the benefits you get.

Thanks for the laugh! Today I'll go to class and try to picture my prof in a monocle and top hat. I think one of them could pull it off.

I've always wondered this too. What is it like in the non-ADD patient? I am prone to panic attacks so I assume it would trigger one of those since it's a stimulant. Then again, maybe not? But nevertheless, I'm sure more people than yourself have been curious about it.

If you think you could fly off a high wall/bridge/car park etc, Ritalin could give you the confidence to do it. That is why it is restricted, among other things.

You're going to take it regardless of what we say...so why bother asking the question?

your mentality is wrong, I don't even know how to get them without seeing a doctor first. i want to, but i can't buy them. If I try viagra for just once, does that automatically make me a drug abuser?

also thanks for the moderator on this forum who didn't lock my thread. idiots at the allopathic forum even locked my question asking why they locked my first question?

i am just curious how this medicine can help people to study.

All I'll say about that is that you should not be so quick to judge.

Then how is it in a class of 160 first year med students, in the one month after classes started we got 45 new scripts for them at the pharmacy? They weren't particularly open about it, but since the school color codes the border of the ID picture, it's not exactly hard to figure it out.

And yes, Med students have a different color then other students in the med school (DMRT, PhDs, etc).

im not judging, I am just cautious. Common sense dictates when you should be more careful about things. In all honesty, have you worked in an ER rotation yet? Do they profile their patients too?

mm, I like this forum already.

It seems that you people are not as shallow as those people in the allopathic forum.

Here are my 3 threads which all got locked, some of them are so ignorant.

Not the best way to call attention to yourself.

1. It's not ANYONE, it's people who don't have a valid prescription, don't indicate they have a disease or symptoms that require it and "just want to know what it's like" because they "want to take it"

2. They do, but doubtfully at the proportion who actually use it, nor pharmacy students for that matter.

3. How do you know you didn't ask abusers to answer it? I'm sure you have a source in mind if you already want to try it.

4. Probably
