My brother and I went to different undergrad institutions. At his school, to make Dean's List you only needed a 3.5 or above. At my school, you have to be in the top 10%, so I only got it when I got a 3.8 or above. How do you make Dean's List at your school? Is it really such a big deal?

I think it's a 3.4 or 3.5 at my school.

Because Dean's List is determined only by GPA, your GPA says a lot more than Dean's List.

You get a 4.0. Only did it once.

You have a minimum B+ average, Dean's list means nothing at my school.

it's 3.5 for my school. pretty easy to get. i think it should like an A- (3.67ish) for deans list

Edit: Oopsies, heres waht it really is:
Dean's List—you must earn a semester grade point average that places you in the top third of all undergraduates in Trinity College.
Dean's List with Distinction—you must earn a semester grade point average that places you in the top 10% of all undergraduates in Trinity College.

What's with the four grades, don't you need 5 courses to make a full course-load?

Not at Duke. 4 is standard

my school is 3.5 too

depends on the school i guess

but it's nothing special, it just appears on your transcript to say u did pretty good that quarter

sleep w/ one of the deans?

We don't have a Dean's list.

Depends on how many sem hours the typical class is. A school that defines full as 5 classes may offer 3 semester hour classes; 5x3 = 15. A school definining full as 4 classes may offer 4 sem h classes; 4x4=16. You'd actually be doing more, all things considered, in the 4 courseload of school B than in the 5-load of school A.

It's only a 3.2 at UNC if you're taking 15 or more hours, and a 3.5 if you're taking less than that. Probably means at least 1/3 of the students get it every semester.

It's 3.6 at my school.

At my school, it was 3.5 for Dean's List. Also full-time was considered only 12 credit hours, not 15. Is 15 the norm?

It is at my school, but like someone mentioned before, it depends on the credit-value of each course. At my school, a half course is 3 credit-hours, so 5X3 = 15 credit hours per semester for a full course load.

I think you need a 3.6 at our school.

At Penn, you have to have a 3.7 or higher GPA for both semesters since Dean's List is only given as a once in a year kind of thing. Then, if you do that, there's just a little notation on your transcript - You don't get anything else for it.

Honors, on the other hand, are at least a bit cooler since it goes on your final diploma. 3.8 or higher overall for summa, 3.6-3.79 for magna, and 3.4-3.59 for just plain cum laude.

Same for my school. With at least 4 classes and Credit for all non-letter grade classes.

One semester I had a 4.0 but for some idiotic reason, forgot to drop this really annoying physical activity class I signed up for. So I ended up with a No Credit on my transcript and minus a Dean's List. 🙄

3.5

We have something called "Academy" for people in the top 10% (at time of graduation).

Dean's List isn't really all that important anyway. It's based purely on GPA, so it doesn't exactly add anything.

3.5 for Dean's list and 4.0 for Chancellor's list.

Same, except for my faculty you only need 3.5 for Dean's List.

At my school, we had to be in the top 10% of the entire school to be on the Dean's list.

People should state the school, so we can make a comparison.

GaTech

3.0 was dean's list (Top 25% roughly)

Thats why i think a comparative distribution should be completed to make comparing gpas between schools fair.

For instance, at my gf school roughly 50% of students graduated with a 3.75 or higher.

I graduated with a 3.59 and placed me in the top 10%.

That just doesn't seem right.

However schools like some ivies would be at a huge disadvantage if percentile GPA at a particular school was compared rather than straight GPA.

Ohh well, I like to rant.
