How do you go about the question "Tell me about yourself" with an open application interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Mention things that aren't on your application. Your background, your family, your hobbies, your personality, etc. But I mean make it flow and relate it to dentistry somehow.

You tell them about yourself 😉

I'll make you a MadLibs
"My name is (name) I am from (location) my hobbies include (verbs) and I am (adjective). Nice to meet ya"

You wanna get the people going. Here's a suggestion:

Just tell them about yourself? Is this a hard question for you? Or are you an alien?

Some people aren't as full of themselves as you are.
You dont have to be full of yourself to tell someone about your self.
Interviewer: so tell me about yourself
Student: I believe it to be unwise describing myself because I might seem full of myself according to a fellow SDN user's logical reasoning.
Interviewer: Well OK, go ask that idiot for a job.

P.S. This is not a hard question, some people just get caught up with emotions all the time, and never focus or learn how to be critical or at least think of a basic honest answer.

The real issue isn't telling someone about yourself. The OP was referring to this question when you're in an open file interview. In all honesty though, few open files are truly open file. The people interviewing you may have brisked through your file and may even have a decent sense of your accomplishments but they don't truly know who you are or where you come from. It's not until you can genuinely stare them in the eyes and talk about your life and your accomplishments do they obtain a clearer picture of the type of person you are.

To the OP, don't over-read the open file situation. Whether a closed or open file interview you should address this question rather identically.

I actually get stumped on the "do you have anything else to mention to us that isnt on your application?". Im a very good writer so I feel my PS portrays my character and goals perfectly, and my extracurriculars show my interests.

you wanna say what you like to do outside of classes, research, and volunteer experience. Do you like hiking, snowboarding, skating, singing, balling, like what the molarbear said

If it is a closed interview, then should we approach it by telling some of our accomplishments?
