Hi so I'm stressing out right now trying to figure out when to study for the MCAT & when to take it, as I seem to have zero free time. I'm a soon to be sophomore and here's my sched till junior yr:

Fall sophomore
chem 2
bio 1
stats
med term
intro food sci

spring soph
orgo 1
bio 2
psych
nutrition

summer 2015
orgo 2
physics 1

fall junior
physics 2
biochem
cell bio
u.s health care
disability course

spring junior
disability course
genetics
microbio
sociology

I had planned originally to study summer 2015, but idk how feasible that is with orgo 2 & physics + the labs? The summer term is the entire summer btw. Even pretending I can do all that, I know most recommend taking MCAT spring junior, but I won't have finished sociology which is on the exam. Supposing I self study some sociology though, should I take it spring junior to have the chance of retaking that summer (very likely) or should I just take it in the summer having been much more prepared with sociology, microbio and genetics?

Also, I'm forced to take orgo 2 & physics in the summer b/c in Fl we need to take 9 credits during a summer term and I haven't done one yet. Is it impossible to take a class summer of junior year when I'm applying and everything, even if it's a very easy class?

Please help I'm so lost. Thanks so much!

haha you schedule sounds like you go to my school. Whats your major?

First things first, stop stressing! You're a rising sophomore. The MCAT is far away for you, you can relax. I would personally recommend pushing back intro to food science, nutrition, stats, or med terminology and fitting in your psych and sociology classes. Just make sure that pushing back those classes doesn't interfere with graduation requirements for you major. Also it's possible to get exempt from the 9 credits of summer work. I came in with enough credits from high school and got my exemption approved through my advisor.

Second, you should see a pre-med advisor or your department advisor. They will really help regulate your schedule and get yourself best set up to succeed.

Third, it's very possible to study during the summer while taking classes. It's not that crazy. I promise you'll be able to fit in more studying than you think, you just have to be willing to work hard. I would take the MCAT during the summer after you've finished your classes, self studying doesn't work for everyone. And I promise, you have more time than you think. Either get better at time management, cut down your EC's, or sleep less, its your choice!
