How do you have your letters of rec from undergrad stored and submitted?

I have had several professors write me letters of rec which I'll be submitting in my med school app. I've had them submit them to my major department who keeps these letters on file and then can send them into med schools when I apply. Is this the right way to be doing this or is there some other place I should be having my professors submitting their letters to? Thanks!

I'm using interfolio, which is a dossier for things like letters of recommendations. You can pay for a membership and through the span of the membership, you can send invitations for your letter writers to submit their letters of recommendation, which will be saved until your membership expires (you can renew this membership). It also can be easily sent to AMCAS and you are notified when they've been sent/received.

So do you think that the way I've been doing it through my department is not a good way to go?

If your major department will be writing a letter of evaluation or just sending a letter packet, you method is fine. Is your premed advisor in the dept? If not, speak to dept chair. He/she could write a letter in their capacity as chair that has solicited info from the faculty. Do you have formal premed committee at your school
This is the page from my department which discusses holding letters and having them sent to grad/professional schools: https://www.psych.ucsb.edu/undergrad/letters-rec

Interfolio is the way to go. They charge a yearly renewal fee but all your letters are stored (forever) and can be sent to AMCAS, AACOMAS, TMDSAS, and anything else you need them for.

If you are submitting individual letters (as opposed to committee letters), Interfolio is your friend here.
Yes, you have to pay. But, it's so worth it that your LOR experience will be much more enhanced.
