Hey there. Just wondering if anyone has got some advice for me. I am wondering how to narrow down the search for residency programs. I am interested in psych programs, especially on the west coast. Besides FREIDA, (in which most of the programs are pretty comparable) and scutwork (many programs are not evaluated and the ones that are have rave reviews from a chief resident), how do you pick where to apply? Does the number of interviews a program has tell you how competitive a program is? All the programs look good on their websites and the info they send you, so I am not sure of where to apply other than going off location. I don't want to hurt myself by applying to cometitive programs and not knowing it. Any ideas?🙂

Besides talking with your own psych program director and chairperson about where they think that you should apply, I would recc that you speak with as many psych residents and interns you can find about which programs they were impressed with when they were interviewing. Also, you can ask the people who write your letters of recc or other attendings too. Most people don't mind you asking.
