I am going NUTS here! There is no school, no tests to study for, no homework to do, the applications are just about done... I know I'm supposed to be relaxing and recouping during this time between semesters (and for me, between jobs), but I feel like a hamster in that little wheel that gets you nowhere. Aaaaahhhhh!!!!

I've already read three novels in the week and half since the semster ended. I can't watch another movie or I'll scream. It just makes it worse that now is the waiting game to hear from schools about interviews.

Is anyone else feeling like this? It feels like I have only two modes now; unconscious/asleep and 120rpm.

Do you run? I know when I feel this way a good run to challenge myself does wonders. 😍 Any kids or nieces or nephews? That will stimulate anyone!!!

Well, I've been reading a lot, too. I finished Eragon by Christopher Paolini, and now I'm on the sequel, Eldest. Next I'm going to reread The Da Vinci Code and possibly start on The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.

My sister will be visiting for a week in a few days, so that'll keep me busy. In the meantime, cleaning and work have been keeping me busy when I'm not reading. Oh, and I almost forgot the important distraction -- my Gameboy Advance with old school NES games (both Zelda's, Metroid, Castlevania, Donkey Kong, and Super Mario). 😀

Go girl! Zelda and Metroid Rock!!! Ahh the good old days! I enjoy Final Fantasy on PS2 as well!

I've been sick all through the holidays, so all the medicine I've taken keeps me sedated, drowsy, and sleepy 😴 It's been great 😀

I've worked every single day since I've been on break, so I haven't been able to think about being bored...but when I get the chance to...

...I shop. 😍

But not at normal-retail type places. Anyone who's worked in a place like Target or Wally-World will tell you that it's easy to get retailed out. FAST.

There are great second-hand shops and vintage stores nearby...one of my favorite places to browse is a little store that sells goods from Tibet and Nepal.

When all else fails, I play with my doggy.

Off topic, but did you like Eragon/Eldest? I've been thinking about reading them. 🙂

Yep, I did/do. 🙂 It's a bit predictable at times, but it's amazing that this kid (well, he's in his 20s now) began writing these at 15!

Hey FutureRXGal,

The da vinci code was a good read(even though it goes against my beleifs) it was a very exciting mystery. I went to see King Kong, and I saw a preview for the da vinci code movie which is comming out in the spring.

Angels & Demons is really good too. I actually liked it better than The Da Vinci Code, cuz it is more science related. 😀

Yeah, I've read it before, but I'd like to reread it since it's been awhile.

I have that one around here somewhere, but I haven't read it yet. I have soooo many books, but not enough time (yet) to read them all! And, I keep getting books, so it looks like I'm never going to get ahead.

Uh Oh. My age might be showing through here. I grew up on ATARI! Pitfall, Pacman, Enduro... I had the joystick with the red button and after a few hours of addictive play, your thumb feels like it's going to fall off from hitting that button so hard.

Seconded. I read Angel and Demons before I read Da Vinci Code (I wanted to read them chronologically), and I found parts of Da Vinci code to just be a rehash of the first book. I've seen the previews for the movie, though, and they look good (I still picture Harrison Ford as Robert Langdon, though).

Right now I'm re-reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (and then the rest of the Narnia books). I've seen the movie twice so far and I loved it.

I'm not in school, though, so the few days I have off visiting family have been a bit of a relief. However, There are times when I am at work and I'm reading about the struggles that some of the pre-pharm students are going through and I think, "Gosh, I wish that I was at least back in class again!" I really hope that I get into pharm school this year - I look forward to learning again after being out of school for over a year.

Today I'll get to read a bunch - I'm going on a roadtrip from just outside Portland to Tillamook to visit the cheese factory - yummy cheese and ice cream time!

I played Atari with the joystick back in the day as well. Frogger was the best! I also liked Centipede and Asteroids. And there was another game I loved... I think it was called Adventure. Regarding age, I think I'm only a few years behind you... 😉

Actually, there's this Atari thing you can buy for like $20 and it comes with some games. At least, this was available this time last year. I thought about buying it, but I ended up getting the Gameboy instead.

Oooh, those were some of my favorites growing up (besides Judy Blume, E. B. White, and The Babysitter's Club books). I have the Chronicles of Narnia here, and when my sister visits, I think she's going to read them since she hasn't yet. I also saw the movie once, and I loved it.

I've been trying to get out to see Memoirs of a Geisha, but I just haven't had time. I read the book over the summer and loved it. 🙂

I agree. I just don't see Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon! But I'm sure it will be a great movie. I can't wait to see it. I wish they would do Angels & Demons too but it's not as popular.

I saw Narnia last night and am thinking about reading those books again. Actually I think I've read only The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe before.

Memoirs of a Geisha was a good book too, though I heard the movie got mixed reviews. But I'm still gonna go see it. 🙂

i am actually REALLY relaxing. i am reading, taking my dog for runs in the park and sitting out by the pool (it is 80 degrees here in san antonio). i am going skiing next week with my boyfriend. without this break i may have been dead by now.

I've been sleeping in everyday, working on applications during the afternoon, working every evening and then playing World of Warcraft for several hours after work. I've seen many movies. Went to a fantastic dinner party on Christmas. I'm bored and I love it. I know the flip-side is coming around again in a few weeks. I'll be ready for it.

Volunteer! You'll not only curb your boredom, but also learn (not to mention helping others in the process)! 😍

Well, think of something you've never done. Go and do it. And read some nonfiction. It helps.

Mike Tyson's Punch Out!, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Super Tecmo Bowl -- NES was the shiznit...

I have a great book for anyone out there looking for something new to read. It's called "I Know This Much Is True" by Wally Lamb. It's really engrossing. Angels and Deamons is also good, as is the da vinci code.

"I Know This Much Is True" is an EXCELLENT book! It was really hard to read, though. Well, emotionally. 🙁

That author sounded really familiar to me, so I walked over to my bookshelves just now and it's there! Haha, just something else to add to my "books to read" list. 🙂 Have you read She's Come Undone?

She's come undone was the first one that I read by him, it's good as well. It's amazing how he writes from the woman's point of view, I would never believe that a man could relate so well. Wait 'till you read i know this much is true, it's even better. I can't wait until he comes out with something else, I think he's so so good.

Wally Lamb's other book "She's Come Undone" kept me engrossed while healing from my accident. I read I.K.T.M.I.T. as well. I've also read the Da Vinci Code, but thought it was a tease.

Anything by Augusten Burroughs is a trip. If you want to go really far out, try Billy (William) Burroughs.

agreed, can't beat some "naked lunch".

I've been working out and running every chance I get. Playing football, basketball, soccer with my kids. Reading "Fabric of the Cosmos", "One-hundred Years of Solitude", and "Remarkable Mathematicians". And I may have had a few glasses of eggnog here and there. 😉

Since this seems to sort have turned into a reading thread, another set of books I would suggest would be anything by Christopher Moore - his last book came out last Christmas ("The Stupidest Angel"), but he has a bunch of other books - Practical Demonkeeping, Coyote Blue, Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story, The Isle of the Sequined Love Nun, The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, and my favorite, Fluke: Or I know why the winged whale sings.

As you can tell by the titles, he writes off-the-wall stuff - most of it has a supernatural bent, but it never seems sacreligous. The first line of his latest book is a good example:

Christmas crept into Pine Cove like a creeping Christmas thing, dragging garland, ribbon, and sleigh bells, oozing eggnog, reeking of pine, and threatening festive doom like a cold sore under the mistletoe . . . .

I can read and re-read his books and I laugh my head off every time. I even got my father-in-law, an episcopalian priest, interested in the books. Give them a try! (I would suggest reading Practical Demonkeeping first - some of the characters in his books overlap).

And on another note - original nes WAS the shiznit. I was the only person in my family that could beat Kid Icarus, and to this day I steal my husband's GBA on airline flights and pop in my original Dr. Mario (love those pills!) and Tetris from my old school gameboy. I got to play some duckhunt the other day and remembered how bad I was at that game.

I am cooking and spending time with my daughter.
We started sewing, but our sewing machine broke today GRRR!

I am reading Chinese Cinderella, I am finishing Tipping Point, and I want to read Freakonomics next.

I made a Bolognese sauce yesterday
and
Today is my Birthday!!! 😍

I just read Prozac Nation. Now I want to rent the video.

You know this from personal experience? Maybe the adcoms shared this info with you? LoL...Perhaps you should offer your "professional" services.

This reminds me of a conversation my roommate and I have over and over. It goes like this:

roommate (usually while drunk): I have only had sex with one person.
me: Does that include yourself?
roommate: No. Then it's two. I have had sex with two people. I'm such a *****. hee hee

Wow. This thread is amazing. I posted it initially due to the "free time jitters," but it has taken so many unexpected turns since then that it has gone from the book/video game thread and has now become the "dirty thead." It has been quite entertaining to watch it morph.

Thanks for the ride.

I am reading a book that my mother-in-law bought me for Christmas. It is called Character is Destiny by John McCain. It is actually very good. He gives examples of how some very famous historical figures (and some not so famous) have demonstrated certain values and virues that have made them notable in history. Examples: Ghandi, Winston Churchill, Rosa Parks, Thomas Moore and George Washington). 👍
