To DEA or state board? We have a local nurse practitioner who writes overwhelming number of controls. Their staff calls in those prescriptions over the phone. Usually it's combination of Tylenon# 3/ 4 or Tramadol and one of the benzos (Xanax or Klonopin or Tranxene) and also sometimes Ambien.

Two of my pharmacist partners also have expressed their doubt so it's not just me. I want to report this person and I found "Submit a tip to DEA" page on DEA website. There is an option of Rx abuse reporting where you can report suspicious prescribers. Below is the link:

Submit a Tip to DEA

Wondering if anyone has any experience with this? How effective this is and what would be the consequence of reporting? Also, any other source of reporting a suspicious prescriber?

In truth..you probably have to...The days of these poultice wallopers skating are over..For example I can't remember the last time I touched APAP 4...I hope you are noting on paperwork that you are advising against driving, long term use etc. Doing that saved me one time...

I have yet to report to DEA but reporting to the licensing boards (there typically is a form on the website for California licensees) usually gets a response within 2 months to 2 years

I typically will submit a tip to DEA and file a complaint with the board of medicine/nursing. It's a crap shoot for whether or not you'll get a response. I've had DEA agents call me before for more information and then sometimes I'll never hear anything.

Not sure about the laws in your state, but if this NP has a supervising physician then you might consider informing them as well.
