www.interfolio.com

You can also address envelops to all the schools you will need and stamp them as well... You can give all the envelops to the prof and ask him to mail a copy to each one of the schools you are applying to. I would also ask them to please hang on to a copy just in case you add another school. Most profs are just fine with all that. Good luck

thank you Amy, this sounds like something that could work. Though if i will be applying to like 8-10 schools and every one of them needs at least 2 LOR's plus the DO LOR, it will be pretty messy to send 24+ letters. Also do schools accept which are not sent via school or whatever.
SOrry for all these questions but i am still new to the process and i want to orginize myself for the next appl cycle so i won't be running like crazy the whole summer.

I used my premed advisor. He got all my letters and sent them all out for me.

For one of my letters though, I filled out a 2 day air envelop and gave it to my letter writer with the postage on it. He mailed his letter in it. You have to have them sign it with a statement across the sealed part, saying something like.... "i have mailed this to you and student kicia has not seen it" and then they sign their name. That is what a bunch of my friends did also. Do you have a premed advisor at your school that would handle your letters for you?? that would really be the best way to go. Or even an adviosr at yoru school???

I'm using Interfolio.com also. Just go the the website and read about it to find out how to to use it. It is $15 of a year, plus certain amount for every letter that they send out. I haven't used it too much yet, but I think that it will make things much easier on me.

One of my professors, however, is afraid of Interfolio, so I'm going to e-mail him with addresses as I get my secondaries. I was going to provide him with stamps and evelopes, but he is going to write those off as "departmental expenses."

I have used interfolio a lot so far in this process...and will be using it more for a couple more schools. I cant emphasize how much easier and headache-free it has been. It also adds a degree of control over who gets what letters and when. Let me just re-emphasize that Interfolio really is a great way to handle your LORs

thank you all guys for your replies. I will take a look at this interfolio stuff.
I have like a year to look at it LOL.

also maybe your undergrad has a reference letter service? i know at Michigan, you just have the prof. write a letter and fill out a pre-med cover form, then it gets stored in your file forever. and you can send it as many times as you want without bothering the professor again. i'm not sure how interfolio works but it sound similar. 🙂

While I have checked with many of the schools I am applying to about Inerfolio all said they would accept it, but check with each school just to be safe.

Interfolio.com all the way baby. I've had no problems with it at all.

Sorry I am alittle confused this was one of my questions that I had for my pre-med advisor. So you need to send out the LORs directly to each school you applied to? Or can I send it to ACOMAS or AMCAS?

Thanks guys!

Is this information covered somewhere on AMCAS or ACOMAS. I am a little confused with the application process after submitting the primary apps.

i am pretty sure (but i wouldn't let my hand to be cut off for it) that in most schools you send your LORS after you receive the secondaries...

Unfortunately, I didn't know about Interfolio when I applied. Also, there are some schools that won't acccept LORs that way, so you must check with them. I asked 15 different people for LORs. I gave all of them addressed, stamped envelopes, a resume, and a cover letter to remind them of theclasses they taught me and the grades I made. Most of them only had to send two or three. My advisor had to send about eight because soem schools asked specifically for a premed advisors letter. Other schools wanted two science and one non-science. Still others wanted three from "senior science faculty". I specifically took classes taught be the department chair when possible just so I would be able to get recommendations from them. I don't know whether or not it made a difference.

All that aside, I wouldn't do it that way again. I spent months tracking down some LORs from professors that I thought would be quick about it, but were not. The Chemistry department chair told me that he would copy and sign as many as I wanted, but I'm not really sure if he ever sent his in. I later decided not to interview at the two places that he was supposed to send them to anyway. You are better off getting as few professors as possible to send them in for you, but keep in mind that you need to make sure they are people who will do it in a timely manner. Talk to people from the class in front of you and ask them who NOT to have write LORs. They can tell you who the slackers are.

You send the LORs to the medical schools. This is done once you recieve a secondary from them and that is when they ask for the LORs.

The reference letter service at Michigan doesnt save them forever. I think it's more like 10 years or so after you graduate. Not that you'll need them after 10 years, but just saying.

does anyone know which schools don't accept interfolio?

also do you think it is the worst thing in the world if you dont have your SSN or ACOMAS id on your letter of recs like they want? all my letters are already uploaded into interfolio, and I know some schools ask you put that stuff on there.
