How do you show proof that you shadowed a dentist with the hours? Do you call up your dentist and ask them to write up some documentation?

D-schools do not actually know what volunteering or shadowing you have done or any of your EC's actually.
They just take your word for it, however, if they catch you lying (they have their ways) about something serious, then you will never become a dentist :scared:.
So hence, no one will ever risk that.

Good luck

Most schools usually ask for letter of recommendation from a dentist that you have shadowed. They write down in that letter what you have been trained and everything else.

Oh really? They don't require any type of documentation from dentists? Do you have to provide reference numbers?

Well I am not quite sure whether they contact the dentist anyway, but I pretty much think the letter of recommendation covers it all. 😎 So, are you applying next year or this year?

Some schools actually require proof of shadowing. But, don't worry about it until you apply and when they request it then provide it. It is ussually a form that your dentist will fill out and sign. It's no big deal. So, if you start shadowing, just keep the dentists contact information so you can contact them when needed.

Thanks, do they ask for numbers as well on the form?

How many hours of shadowing do you suggest? Is 50 enough?

LLU will send you that form along with your secondary application.

In the app. it asks for the name of the doc., your position title, to briefly describe what you did (like 150 words), how many total hours, and start/end date.

50 would be great but it doesn't hurt to have more at that office or more at a different specialty (I had about 100 at a pediatric office, 40 at an orhtodontic office, and 30 at a GP's office).

And one letter of recommendation is usually requested by the schools you apply to "prove" you actually did some shadowing. But like the above posters mentioned, some don't ask for a dentist letter, so they just take your word.

Ohio State requires documentation. You can get the form off their website. All other schools I applied to didn't ask for anything more than what you put on AADSAS.
