Hey all,

How doable is taking Intro to Physics 1 (algebra based with lab), Ochem-2 with lab, and microbiology with lab in one semester? The semester will consist of only those classes mentioned. There will also be no working or volunteering throughout the semester. This schedule seems heavy so i'm curious to hear if anyone else has done this and/or get some feedback about how doable this schedule would be.

Thanks!

Very doable. In fact, you can get all As in those classes since there are no work + volunteers. Plus, that physic class is algebra based, you will be fine OP.

My semester has:
Ecology & Organism Biology
Organic chemistry 2
Physic 2 (Calculus based)
Quantitative analysis

Total 16 units with lab included. I manage to get all As beside a B in that Physic class, and I have volunteer + works.

You will be fine.

Theoretically doable. That's the max no of science + Lab courses I'd do in a semester, but you know yourself better than we all do

I did 3 lecture/lab courses like that 3 semesters in a row and got all As. If thats all you got, it's a perfect amount of work to be able to do it all and have a good amount of free time for yourself.

Agree with the above posters. My personal opinion is that they're all kind of time sinks, but definitely doable. But as stated above, you know yourself far better than we do. If it's overwhelming and you don't think you can do it, make sure you hit the eject button before the withdrawal period is over to avoid a C if possible. No shame in retaking a W if you can get an A. I retook 5 W/F/D's and got all A's and still got in. Good luck!

In fall, I'm gonna do Gen Bio 1, Phys 1 and Ochem 1 😀

Y'all are babies. This was an average semester.

Molecular Gen +L
Immunology +L
EMT training +L
Cell Phys +L
+ Research
+ girlfriend (no idea how that happened lol)
+ dark souls

The most important thing I learned? Go slow and get better grades. You're only young once; enjoy college. After that you've got seven years of working your ass off at minimum. If it means 1 more semester, do it. God knows you're gonna be up to your ears in debt anyways.

The general rule of thumb is to take 2 hard science classes per semester, but you have to determine difficulty for yourself. There are ppl I've seen who can do your schedule in a condensed 6 week summer session. But just because someone else can do it shouldn't mean you should extrapolate that to yourself. If you've made it to Ochem 2, I'm sure you've taken enough science courses to see the rigors of it. Take a step back, assess your study habits, time commitments, and grades received from previous semesters and assess for yourself if it's a good schedule for you or not.

If you've taken 2 science courses in the past, try to remember how many hours roughly you studied for each and how your life was during that time. Now, add 50% on to that and imagine if it seems reasonable or not? That's the best advice I can give.

I wouldn't recommend it. But only you can answer this question.

Yes....dark souls, ochem 1, ochem 2 and bio 2 in one semester. That was nuts. Especially the +10 zweihander.

Microbio is pretty easy tbh

I appreciate all the feedback, thank you! If microbiology is straight memorization that will be a piece of cake, but taking three classes is risky to my GPA.
