I keep reading about "Longitudinal" care ... How does the exactly look in a residency? Does that mean the resident takes care of the patient from check in to check out? Is this the new goal for residency programs?
I've never heard that terminology applied to a residency curriculum before, but I suspect it means that you're assigned a patient panel that you follow throughout your training, including during hospitalizations, pregnancy/delivery, hospice, etc.
That's the way it was done when I was a resident, anyway. Frankly, I thought that was the way it was done everywhere.
