Hi, I am an incoming freshman and wanted to know if my schedule is good and manageable for my first quarter. Here it is
Leadership class 2 hours
Freshman seminar 4 hours
calc 1 4 hours
Cell bio and lab 5 hours
Gen chem and lab (only for a quarter...next quarter I will take ochem) 4 hours
I am not worried about the first three courses as the leadership course is easy, the freshman seminar should be manageable (i hope) and I have already taken bc calc and.aced the class. My main concern is with the last two. I got a 5 on chem but will not use the credit and am skipping gen bio with my 5. Do u guys have any suggestions on how to pull of "a"s in these classes? How long should I probably prepare to study for these two courses daily (i know it depends on the teacher... But based on your experiences)? How difficult are the concepts in these two courses? Any other suggestions or thoughts would be great! Thanks! I am starting to get really nervous 🙁

Doesn't sound too bad for a freshmen. Don't underestimate any of your courses and you shouldn't have a problem.

Gen. Chem. shouldn't be too bad for you, especially with your background in chemistry from high school. If you're jumping into upper level bio from the get-go though, I hope your bio background is just as strong. Cell bio should be your toughest class but easily manageable.

I wouldn't have skipped bio if I were you. Your high school biology probably wasnt as rigorous as a college general bio class and so your background may be lacking. Just make sure you focus a lot of time on bio next year. General chemistry isn't too bad, just practice alot

Well guys, I would say that my bio background is pretty good, but I do not remember a lot of the material as I took the class during my Junior year. The only reason I am skipping is because before I had picked this university as my school to attend, the cell bio professor told me that he wanted me to skip into cell bio. He said that in the 15 years + he has been there, almost everyone that has skipped has ended up with an A (except for the people that slacked off).

Would you still not skip even if the professor wants me to skip? He even sent my dad an email in May saying that he is excited to teach me during his class in September.

Also, do you think I would be put at a disadvantage in regards to the lab if I skip over? We did not do too many labs in AP Bio....

Finally, how hard would it be to manage Genetics and O-chem together in my second quarter? I would also have to take calc 2(of a three part series), english, and a leadership class. This is my schedule for January to March. If I do not skip the general Bio, I will just take that instead of genetics...

Oh, and there is still time to change. We do not make our schedules until beginning of September 🙂

Thanks guys! 🙂

lol, my dad and I had a meeting with the professor to talk about my options for school since he was the head of the pre-med for many years at my private university. After my dad sent him an email thanking him for meeting with us, he replied and said that he was excited to have me in his class.....
