How does one answer the "Describe a time you acted professionally"

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I dont expect a full on help or answer, but what do they usually look for? Do you just answer with I act professional all the time? Or what exactly do they want.

"I acted very professionally when a customer came into my Mervyn's store and started pissing all over the clothes displays and racks. I did X, Y, and Z in compliance with store protocol, and even though I was being yelled at to do a million things at once including the indecent exposure in the family section, I never lost my composure."

That'd be a good example, drawn from my best friend's excellent retail life experience, heh. They're looking or one time that really demonstrates how you can be professional under fire, or how you conduct yourself professionally and what it means TO BE professional, if you've never worked before or been in a position where even in distress you still acted professionally (i.e., with decorum and tact).

tell a nice story about how you changed the outcome of a scenario for the better. Maybe you corrected an elder in a respectful way or perhaps you made a difference for a group of people.

This is an opportunity to show the adcoms that you have strong positive values.

I currently work in a call center for one of the largest insurance companies in the world so I have a lot of stories I could tell you. Here is an example. I was trying to help this customer out with her auto policy. She was screaming at me because her premium increased. I explained to her what happened and tried to find a mutual solution that would benefit her and the company. So, I decided to add a discount, which lowered her premium but this lady was not satisfied. So towards the end of the call she said to me:

"You must be a Mexican. You must caught a case of the swine flu you dumb ass mother******."

I calmly replied, "Actually, I am Black but since I was not able to help you out today I can get you to a supervisor and they can see how best they can help you out". Then I transferred the call.

But that is what I deal with on a regular basis.

We had a terminally ill patient a couple months ago, we were trying to get him some medication to make his last few days easier, but the insurance company pulled a prior authorization out of their ass. It was Saturday, and this couldn't wait, so I decided to call up the insurance company.

I gave it a few tries and they wouldn't budge before I started using profanity. They approved it. All that for some ****ing boxes of albuterol and ipratropium bromide nebulizer solution.

The patient passed away 10 days after.

If profanity is professional, I'm Asian.
