How does research that is in progress look on applications? I'm trying to decide if it is worth pursuing a new research project if it will not be submitted until after applications are due.

Hi,

Are you referring to a research project that is being submitted to an institution's IRB or a psychology department's exploratory research class? If you're referring to submission of a research project that you can be co-investigator on (with potential for peer-reviewed publication), then submitting 'in progress' looks fine as long as it will be submitted one day...

If the research is yours to present and you're prepared to discuss the study in detail, then go for it. It would enhance your CV/resume & give interviewers something to discuss of mutual interest!

Just make sure all authors/investigators in this research project (mainly the first-author) are aware that you're adding it to your CV and including it with your applications...Especially if one of the researchers is a recommender & submitting a letter on your behalf!

However, do not submit a research project on your application if it's not your own or it's a figment of someone's imagination. You catch my drift? 😎 Programs are looking for honest candidates not deceptive ones that misrepresent.

Good Luck & get that project 'in press' (next step after 'manuscript accepted')! :luck:
