I was just wondering how your school handles summer research and how the financial side works. Do students get paid by the school or PI? Do you guys have programs in place that guarantee stipends to students? Does your school help you find opportunities?

We apply for NIH grants for the summer through the school that supposedly everyone gets, but we'll see in a month or so.

All students required to do research to graduate. Either external grant like NIH, directly from PI or through a school grant program that you apply for. Or sometimes you work for free, like I did

federal work study i.e. tax money i.e. other Americans' hard(ly) earned income

My school funds anyone who finds a mentor and submits a proposal. Granted, its not enough to live on, but it pays the rent... and the ramen bill.

Hope you land one of about 10 spots within the system or enjoy your summer break.
