How does Rhogam not induce hemolysis in the fetus?

I dont think Rhogam crosses the placenta.

Here is an excerpt for anyone reading this thread

Before administration, fetal RBCs are quantitated in order to determine the proper dose of RhIG.

RhIG is IgG antibody. It will cross the placenta and can cause a weakly positive DAT in the fetus/infant. However, the titer of anti-D is too weak to cause any clinically significant RBC destruction.
 
Why not just use IgM (more phagocytic and won't cross placenta)? Any immunologists out there?
