How does screening actually work?

I know that all of these schools probably have different procedures... But if anyone could speak to how specific schools function, that would be really informative.

Question to keep in mind: How much (or what parts) of the application is read before an interview is issued?

It's up to the school. Odds are if a place gets thousands to tens of thousands of applications, only a fraction, usually based on numeric stats, in state criteria, diversity and other predetermined factors will get looked at. But each place sets their own thresholds and each has a different target number of interviews etc.
