So with interview invites beginning to roll in, it got me thinking. Lets say you apply in June and are complete to schools in July. What happens if schools begin to interview and you are passed up the first couple of times for interview invites? Do the schools just pass your app on to be considered later? I have a buddy that got passed up by DMU when they released there first wave of invites last Friday and thinks its a sign that they silently rejected him.

Depends on the school. Some will pass you up and come back to look at you later. Some will silently reject you until May without a peep. Your friend is being overly critical though. Just because you didn't get in the first round of interview invites doesn't mean much. This is a waiting game so don't get down about not being invited first. If your stats are near the school's average, then you have a pretty damn good chance of getting an interview granted no red flags if you apply early.

Thats what I told him. He got a 23 on the MCAT though so maybe they did reject him. Who knows

He probably did get rejected then. DMU is a tough school to get into. If he really wants DMU, he's going to need to raise that MCAT.

I found that a lot of schools also have minimal requirements before they will even look at your application with any effort. With a 23, your friend may be just under that mark for the particular school.

DMU doesn't really do silent rejections, so your friend should expect a rejection letter from them soon. Unless he has something in his/her app that is unbelievable, that mcat is just too low for DMU.

That being said, last year I was complete at ccom for two months before they finally gave me an interview. Tons of people were complete after me and got interviews before me. So if an interview doesn't come on the date you expect, it doesn't necessarily mean a silent rejection. It could, but it isn't for sure. And to throw another curveball, someone who posts regularly got rejected from multiple schools and then later a "my bad, interview invite" letter to the multiple schools. That's rare, but it does happen.

How often do schools send interview invites before they even have someone's LORs in? I didn't know this happen until I read that someone got a NSU invite w/o being "complete".

DMU has fast track where you get an invite but you have to submit everything before the interview, but it is very rare to get an interview before being complete.
