  1. Podiatry Student
I met today in Chicago another pre-pod student who will be starting Scholl in Fall-2007. I asked him whether he is on SDN. he said he never even heard abt it. I said him abt our forum and he was suprised to know that there are forums on Podiatry. Well, he was a Backup (i.e didnt got accepted in med school so starting pod), so may be he never tried to found out anything. But i think there aint no better place for research and direct students opinion as SDN is. I mean in SDN you talk to like real persons with real experiences (even real scoldings, he he) . I think SDN is such a great source for us. Where are the others who are not on SDN? Where do these pre-pods get their info abt Podiatry from apart from Shadowing. I think this forum is such a great resource for pre-pods. So i was wondering do you guys know any people who dont know abt SDN.

Yeah, I would estimate about 90% of my class doesn't know about SDN either. I tried to talk to a few students about it and they never heard of such a thing. Also, I spoke with many students who really don't know much about Podiatry in regards to residency, boards, or political issues (good or bad). In fact, I spoke with one student a couple weeks ago that never even shadowed a Podiatrist. This person applyed to both Dental and Podiatry with DAT's and only got into the DPM program. I would like to add that I am very happy that Podiatry schools are not taking DAT's anymore. I think there is a huge difference between becoming a Dentist and going into Podiatry.

Ya, I love SDN. I sometimes think about how many people check out the pod boards here as well. I just think that those people are at a serious disadvantage  On another note, I thought you needed a pod recommendation to get into schools? If he didn't shadow any, how did he get the rec? Maybe, only some of the schools require this?

NYCPM still accepts DATs.

I think this is unfortunate and try to talk them out of it every day.

They are suppose to get a pod recommendation, however this persons advisor wrote one that sufficed.

I clicked expecting a thread on spouses, silly me

In my neck of the woods, I have found a correlation. When I was pre-med and thought pod was an m.d. subspecialty, I knew sdn existed, but thought it was only for "doctors" (m.d., d.o.). That was before I ever got on it.
Where I am, the lack of knowledge that pod blogs are on sdn correlates with the lack of knowledge about pod school in general. I don't know anyone else at my school who is going to pod school (except one kid I met at an interview, and my buddy who is attending now).
So, lack of knowing about pod (where I am) is as common as not knowing about sdn.
But remember, correlation does not equal causation.

Yeah this forum is awsome just wish sometimes a little more traffic would come by once in a while. But other than that iv'e gotton id say 60% of what I know about medicine hear on SDN doing research and asking questions! The other 40% talking to Doctors, Google and Yahoo Search's and Multiple School's. But at the same time SDN can be a little Hectic some times with all the "Am I gonna get in", "Do I have a chance", amd ect....😉
