How does this look for a RA job?

Job duties: cleaning and code quantitative data, perform database literature searches, and engage in preparation of manuscripts for publication. Addition responsibilities include various project-related tasks, such as maintaining and regularly updating a master reference list and reprint database.

Basically, cleaning/coding data, helping out with lit searches and possible prepping manuscripts with some possibility for publications. Not a typical research assistant position so I'm not sure if I want to take it or not. Will be applying to clinical psych phd programs next year. Thoughts?

How is this not a typical research assistant position? It sounds pretty typical to me...also, the opportunity to get your name on a publication is always a good thing.

I have actually, my previous (volunteer) position was lab manager however the professor has moved to another university and I am somewhat displaced.

Fair enough, thank you. The position would be essentially 80% data cleaning/coding with the remaining few hours devoted to the other responsibilities so I was concerned the experience and subsequent letter might be too data oriented.

Mike299, no one will ever stop you from taking the initiative to do more, as long as your basic duties are handled well (i.e., accurately and in a timely manner).

Hey Mike299,

As others have mentioned, this is a pretty solid description of what a RA will do. I will actually be doing the same duties as well as possibly administering or analyzing some neuropsychology assessments. This is our "bread and butter," you can never have too much of the core/fundamental aspects of researching. I hope you take it, I certainly would. Have fun...update us on how things go!
