Essentially, you can get everything lined up so that once Sept 15 comes along, all you have to do is pay and submit.

You can have everything ready to go tomorrow if you're so inclined but it will just sit there until 9/15 when you can actually apply to programs. You don't get a cookie for getting this part done early, but it's nice to get it out of the way.

What about DO candidates? When do they have to submit ERAS? And when does they have to register for NRMP if they have to do MD match? Can they wait after interviews to register?

If you're doing the MD match, the rules are the same for you. I wonder if there's a FAQ for applicants at ERAS and NRMP. Meh...probably not.
