Well I was verified two days ago and already got quite a few secondaries already. In a few days, I probably will get all my secondaries. So, I am wondering how fast I should turn these around. I know we have been emphasizing early submission for the primary and it seems to me I am still pretty early but how fast should I submit secondaries to be totally and completely "early" because adcom don't look at you unless you are complete with secondaries. Get these done by July, August? If I can get them in by the end of augutst, is it early? or too late?

very simple: ASAP, ASAP, ASAP.

there is no such thing as "too early" if your worried about that or anything. Sending them in as early as possible maximizes your chances of receiving an interview. Of course, you do want to make sure that what you write in the secodaries is quality (in other words don't sacfrice quality essays just so you can send them in asap...make sure you are satisfied with them.)

End of July/beginning of August should be good for you...since you've already received them, you don't want them sitting in your inbox for over a month. Also, beware of the time sensitive ones. And, if you see a secondary that requires no essay or a few sentances, there should be no reason why you shouldnt fork over the $$ and send that baby in that day!

Best of luck...timing is half the game in the med school application process!

i know the earlier the better, but if I won't be able to submit secondaries due to family vacation until like mid august....is it still considered early?

What do people think of submitting a secondary before the primary is verified?

Don't do it. Wait to be invited, otherwise you're being rude. (Well not really, but once you've been invited, they'll know to put your secondary with your primary file... Otherwise you'll just confuse them.)

But what if you've been invited to fill out the secondary but your primary isn't verified yet? My example is GW, their website states to make sure your primary is verified, but they invite you to fill out the secondary before the primary is verified...

Yeah, exactly. I've been invited to fill out a secondary at 4 or 5 schools and my primary won't be verified for at least another two weeks. So what do you guys think?

im in the same boat. I received one secondary in my email two days ago, but my primary isn't verified yet. Any suggestions on whether or not I should send in my secondary?

Much different situation. Go ahead and fill it out. They don't say wait till you are verified. In fact, they get SO MANY applications, the earlier the better for ya!

Sorry for making an assumption. If invited, go on and fill 'er out.

Actually, it varies. I was verified already and for SUNY Downstate, I found and sent in the secondary, then 2 days later I received an invite for the secondary and in the email they said, "IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, please send in your secondary". This is coming straight from the horse's mouth.

Ya. You missed my retraction statement in the post above yours. Don't you look silly 😉

Not early early early, if it affects the quality quality quality 🙂.

Why are you guys using the verb "invite" when referring to filing out secondaries? you only get an "invite" when they invite you for the interview. There is no such thing as a "secondary invite".

Hence why you put it in quotation marks "invite" as you did so.

Apply early. Early bird gets the worm! I know, corny, but gets the message across.

And a quote from Pitt:

You are invited to complete an online Supplemental Application by visiting https://admissions.medschool.pitt.edu.

Many schools use this language when inviting you to send in a secondary. And that's why we use the term "invite".

I see...... :annoyed: carry on and disregard my comment.

Hey everyone,

just had a quick question and thought i'd bring this thread back up instead of starting a new one.

i have about 8 more secondaries to complete, i am planning on getting through them all by the end of this coming week. if i am complete at all schools by the end of this coming week, how do i look? is this considered normal or late? i know it's definitely not early. but do you think i've gotten to the point (it's mid august now) where i'm considered late? i'm freaking out a bit here and would really appreciate a response.

thanks and good luck to you all.

I wouldn't consider you early or late. And most schools probably won't either, though this largely depends on the school. I've heard several schools say thay consider summer early, fall late.

Awesome, thanks guys that makes me feel a lot better. Can't wait to be done with all these secondaries, it will feel great once they're all submitted!

i've gotten a few secondaries so far and want to send them in ASAP, BUT...

the committee at my school says the LORs wont be ready until sept. 10th. i should still send in my secondaries in before then, right? will schools not even look at my secondaries until the letters are in?

sorry if this has been asked before ... i promise i searched.

Every school is different. You are better off asking each school directly and doing the supplements for the schools that don't need LORs to start looking at your application first.

If anything, the school will at least know you are interested if you submit and they will have a fill started for you once you've paid...
