Hey,

I am a pre-dent and I was thinking about the future of dentistry...how easy do you think it would be to find a job right out of dental school??? I guess my primary concern is that I wear a head-scarf and I feel that a lot of private practices would look down upon it....and it would hurt my chances when finding a job....appreciate any comments!

I dont know about the head scarf but I can tell you that it is difficult finding enough work in many locations right now. With dental class sizes growing in the last few years and getting bigger, more schools opening, and the economy getting worse the job outlook is only going to get worse. Furthermore, with all of the lost wealth in home equity and the stock market many clinicians may be working further past the age of retirement.

Depends how particular you are about location. Dentists flock to urban areas. But rural america has plenty of opportunities. Especially the "middle of nowhere states" and counties. I talked to someone in Wisconsin who said their town of 25,000 people has one dentist and most drive about an hour to other towns.

As far as the economy goes, that's just another reason why it's good to be in school right now. Not missing anything. Dental school is four years, by the time you graduate, we may Hillary Clinton as our president. Ha. And the baby boomer generation retirees is gonna be crazy good on the job market. But again, location location location.
