after you start residency? For example, what do you do if you're a PGY1 in medicine and decide to switch into radiology because you didn't realize you would hate the field? I wouldn't mind having to do an extra year or two because of such a switch but are there generally a lot of obstacles during the process?
 
ah jeez it's not that easy but there are tons of fairly recent threads on it if you use the search feature

check out "changing specialties" changing residencies, switching residencies, and resignation and termination threads to get a lay of the land of going for residency #2

I might ask, are you about to finish your year or are these fears before you've even started?
 
Someone in my intern class did that third block of the year. It ruined everyone's schedules for the rest of the year. Someone went around the hospital blacking out his face vindictively on the photo sheets with a marker.

There's a time and a place to decide you don't want to do Internal Medicine.

It is medical school.
 
Isn't IM general enough that you can get through it and still explore your options in the multitude of sub-specialties that stem from IM?
 
There are plenty FACS that do FM later in their career. Face it, we get older.
