I have a 3.1 sgap and a 3.47 cgpa. I am taking the mcat next month and averaging low 500's on my practice exams. At this point I don't know what to do. I presume my chances are low for acceptance in osteo and i know allopath is out of the question. Should i stop wasting my time and go into dental or pharm?

I’d post this in the premed section as many of the people here have been removed from the process for a significant time. Heck, I don’t even know what to make of the new MCAT score.

Is getting into dental school easy?

OOooooo that wouldve been a smarter move. I just made an account so i barely know my way around this site. Ummm yeah the dental exam in my opinion is easier, but i want to be a doctor and I'm working hard to study for this ****ing mcat!

500 is about 25 on the old MCAT. I'd say with all the new schools popping out like acne on a 13 year old this person has a chance.

No one has struggled with the MCAT as much as I did. In the end, I got a score good enough to get accepted and now I’m 5 months from becoming a doctor. Looking back at the entire process, I’d say that the MCAT was the step with the highest activation energy. Everything got much better afterwards. Good luck

500 practice could mean anything on real.

I've seen people with 500 get like 492 on the real.

That's why its good to have 510 average or so on practice, because worst case scenarios are more like 500-505 in that case.

OP will prob get in somewhere if above 500. Now whether he 'should' goto the DO schools that will accept is a totally different question.

It would be wonderful if we could all have high averages, but some people can't get them and sometimes you gotta gamble on landing that. Obviously I don't know OP's situation, but it could be the right choice to take it if the circumstances call for it.

You should look into podiatry as a back up, (good luck on your MCAT though, I hope you score well) they specialize in the lower extremity. The gpas and mcats of podiatry students are usually lower than medical students so you could have a shot there Plus you'll still be working with patients in the clinic and you can even perform surgery on the leg/foot.

Ya I don't disagree.

Some people can't get them within a year or so. But I think most people can eventually average high.

I personally don't think its a question of "if" someone can score high, its "when".

Some people its months, others its years.

I had a heck of a time with the MCAT as well but got accepted into 3 schools. Move your MCAT date back until you are scoring where you need to score on practice exams, specifically the AAMC practice exams
